This article discusses the simple ways to rework how you do things and the life lessons learned from reading the book Rework.
I picked out my favorite life lessons to give you a taste.
Strength of your life:
You can learn life lessons from both success and failure. Mainly, failure teaches you great things that we did not know about ourselves. It is a powerful catalyst for personal and professional development. Failure gives the awareness of what not to do again. Success teaches you what worked and motivates you to do again with improvement.
Set a short-term goal:
Plotting out a plan makes you feel in control of things you can not control. Create a short-term goal. It helps you think about what you can do right now. It might seem small, but completing them gives you satisfaction to move forward to achieve a big goal. Break the big task into small tasks. The minor task can be easy to accomplish.
Time Management:
Learn how to manage your time. Keep ensuring that you spend your time as effectively as possible. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Stop making excuses, and right now is the best time to start. The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is time management. Successful people learn to manage their time well. Good time management is organizing and planning your time for different activities.
Eliminate procrastination:
Try not to postpone making a decision. When you put off decisions, they pile up and finally end up unresolved. Commit to making decisions. Decide and move forward. Be aware of how much you procrastinate. Find out the reasons behind it and then learn anti-procrastination strategies like committing to the task, rewarding small accomplishments, asking someone to check up on you, developing positive mental talk, and minimizing distractions. Create a short To-do list:
Avoid making long to-do lists. You will be overwhelmed with the work all day. Finally, you will end up with uncompleted tasks, the worse you feel about it. So, create a small To-do list. Break the long list down into many smaller lists because you can deal with smaller tasks wholly and quickly.
Prioritize work:
Give the priorities to your tasks. Put the most important thing first. The next item on the list becomes the important thing. That way, you can finish the tasks one by one once you know how to prioritize your tasks and your time. You will get a clear idea in place to take you from overwhelmed to under control. Optimize your time and focus on the things that matter most.
Be original:
You can have inspired by successful people. But you should not copy them. Without understanding, you can not create your way.
You can protect yourself from copycats and inject what is unique about your think. Pour yourself into your tasks or projects. Opponents can never copy YOU in your projects.
“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.”- Bruce Lee.
Ignore the opinion of others:
It is human nature to be liked and appreciated by everyone. It often leads to frustration and worrying about other opinions of you. Focus on yourself instead of what others are doing or thinking of you is none of your business. There is no worth of worrying about things you can’t control. If you spend time worrying about others, you won’t improve yourself. Check to know more about this, click here
Say No:
Saying “no” may be difficult because you don’t want to hurt people. You may be thinking about what others think of you and afraid of how they would react to this. Keep in mind that your time is valuable. Learn to spend it wisely. Cultivate the habit of saying “no.” Use the power of no to get your priorities straight. You can say “no” politely and kindly and explain why.
Test Yourself:
Use your time to make mistakes test random ideas to figure out your passion. Try new things. Bad experiences teach you how to get a better life. Obscurity helps you to preserve your confidence. So, take time to try risks without worrying about embarrassing yourself. It would be best if you stood out. Do something meaningful. Be remarkable. That’s how you will get the best coverage.
Business Lessons
Hire the right person:
- Try learning to get involved in all aspects of your business before hiring the people. Never hire the person to do a job until you have tried to do it yourself first. Then only you will know which questions to ask in an interview and get the ideas to supervise hired people.
- Don’t hire people for replacement. If you lose someone, don’t hire the person immediately. See how long you can manage without that person. You will often discover you don’t need as many people as you think. Hire the people when there is more work than you can handle for a while.
- Most communication happens via instant messaging and blogging. If you are trying to hire people to fill a position, hire the best writer. Because good writers possess clear thinking, they are familiar with communicating and making things easy to understand.
- It is a must to judge the candidate who will fill the position by the interview. Hire them for a mini project and judge them by their actions, decisions, and how they get along.
- When people complain, let them know you listen, understand their content, and know what they say. Sometimes you need to go ahead with a decision you believe in, even if it’s unpopular first.
I hope you like these ideas and inspire you to rework how you do things. Let me know how it’s going. I look forward to hearing from you.
